Level 2 Ornamental Stone Carving
In this class we will build on our Ornamental stone carving skills using Traditional tools and techniques to create a lovely Spring Lily. Students work at their own pace on this ornamental stone carving project set out and lead by the instructor. Templates and plaster models are used for the setting out and reference. Students will learn techniques such as undercutting and stippling to create a dynamic, high relief stone carving. Previous experience is very beneficial to be able to complete this project. Tools and materials are provided. SOAPSTONE CARVING - Blank to a Walking Bear
First offering Saturday April 20th, 2024

Learn how to carve soapstone using hand tools. This course is for adults only. No previous experience is necessary. Students will be guided by the instructor through the carving process of shaping, sanding and polishing soapstone to produce a Walking Bear. Tools and materials are provided. Students are responsible for personal protection: safety glasses (optional), gloves (optional), closed toe shoes. Dust masks are provided. carving course. This two-day course will use only hand tools – lettering, claw,
and point chisels and a dummy.
Instructor will guide you through the process of cutting raised letters with class

This is a great opportunity to take advantage of our carving studio space and work on projects that are too large or too dusty for your home studio. Drop-ins can be reserved on a night to night basis and should be registered ahead of time to ensure there is space available. Tools are included and material can be purchased starting at $1 per pound.
